Imagined Citadels of Sheffield I
Miniature Kingdoms Collection

Original Artwork | Water Based Acrylics & Carbon Ink on 30cm x 40cm Canvas Board.

Step into a reimagined Sheffield, where history and fantasy intertwine. Imagined Citadels of Sheffield I envisions a cityscape from a time when Sheffield Castle - now buried beneath the modern city and undergoing excavation - stood proudly in the heart of the landscape.

This piece brings to life an alternative past, one where towering structures rise with an ethereal, almost dreamlike presence, their forms both solid and dissolving, as if time itself has imprinted its memory onto the canvas.

The artwork is rendered in water-based acrylics and carbon ink, creating a rich interplay of color and texture. Layers of fine inkwork form intricate architectural details, while fluid acrylic washes evoke the shifting light of an ancient skyline. The vertical slitting technique lends the piece a sense of weathered grandeur, as if the city’s foundations have been etched by time.

To complement its historical inspiration, the piece is pictured in an antique-style gold frame (not included), offering an example of how it can be displayed. It does comeswith a walnut stained easel as pictured, allowing it to be displayed with ease, whether on a shelf, desk, or mantelpiece.

A unique tribute to Sheffield’s layered history, this original work invites the viewer to explore a cityscape that once was - or perhaps, in some parallel vision, still is.

About the Miniature Kingdoms Collection
Even the smallest canvas can hold an entire world. Each of these miniature paintings is a gateway to an imagined place. Fragments of unseen landscapes, fleeting echoes of history, and glimpses into places beyond our own world. Created with the same depth of vision as my larger works, these small scale pieces invite you to explore new horizons, no matter where you are.
