My inspiration as an artist
Abstract Expressionism with a versatile approach to mediums.
My work incorporates a diverse mix of water and oil-based paints, acrylics, and specialist artist inks. My deeply textural style draws inspiration from a wide range of sources. From the geometric patterns of Welsh textiles to Mayan ceramics and the beauty of nature.
I love to blend abstraction with storytelling. Many of my artworks incorporate mythological, historical and astrological symbolism. My imagined landscapes can also shift into more surrealist territory with a focus on gestural inkwork and a dynamic composition.
My creative process is intuitive and spontaneous.
Guided by rhythms in the music I listen to while painting, and the imaginary worlds I envisage through elements that surround us. As I approach the canvas, I let inspiration guide my hand in the hope of creating unique and expressive pieces.
The scenes I paint offer glimpses into other universes or planes of existence beyond our understanding. I believe that art and the human ability to build and create are profound expressions of our inner worlds and imaginations.
I enjoy the interplay of light and dark
Contrasting warmth and coolness results in paintings with a dynamic, sometimes spectral quality. These works suggest places that exist in a liminal space between the known and the unknown.
My influences range from the vastness of the cosmos to the intricacy of classic architecture, weaving together elements of celestial wonder and earthly history. Myths and Legends, Roman and Greek Gods, Celestial Iconography, and references to ancient civilizations subtly find their way into my compositions, reinforcing themes of fate, cycles, and interconnectedness.
Whether depicting drifting citadels, spectral cities, or mythic landscapes, my work explores the forces that shape human existence. Both seen and unseen.
