Deeper Understanding is a meditation on the modern human condition. Our growing reliance on technology as a source of light, inspiration, and connection, while the natural world continues to shine its presence into our lives, often unnoticed. Inspired by the Kate Bush song of the same name, this piece explores the way we turn to computers, machines, and now AI for meaning, even as the real world outside our windows radiates infinite beauty and wisdom. Through intricate layers of paint and texture, the work urges us to step away from our screens and reconnect with the true sources of creativity that surround us.

The composition plays with contrasts of illumination. Inside the buildings, glowing windows symbolise the artificial light we seek from technology, while outside, beams of golden light cascade from the upper left, representing the ever-present energy of the sun. I've manipulated acrylic paints to form a three-dimensional texture, forcing the material to create a tangible presence, as if the sunlight itself is breaking through the canvas. This deliberate physicality reminds us that nature’s radiance is not just a distant force but something we can reach out and touch. If only we choose to see it.

In the lower right, a vortex of ancient symbolism swirls into being, a golden mandala like formation that suggests an eternal cycle of love, connection, and creation. This textured symbol serves as a counterpoint to the artificial intelligence we so often turn to It is a reminder that wisdom, history, and deep emotional truths are already woven into the fabric of existence. Deeper Understanding is both a reflection and a call to action, asking us to look beyond the digital glow and into the vast, unfiltered brilliance of the world outside.
