Deeper Understanding

As I paint, I draw inspiration from silent reflections in nature, immersing myself in music in front of the canvas. I envision enlightened worlds beyond our own, contemplating their existence while acknowledging our limited understanding of the vast universe. Each piece I create encapsulates diverse influences: architecture, textile patterns, ceramics, celestial clouds, and realms beyond our consciousness.

Inspired by the Kate Bush song of the same name, this piece explores the way we turn to computers, machines, and now AI for meaning, even as the real world outside our windows radiates infinite beauty and wisdom. Through intricate layers of paint and texture, the work urges us to step away from our screens and reconnect with the true sources of creativity that surround us.

I am particularly drawn to listening to specific songs and artists on repeat as I paint each piece from start to finish. The music guides me to make instinctual marks on the canvas, moving with the rhythm. For me Deeper Understanding captures how we all now find ourselves navigating a digital landscape when retreating into the restorative powers of a more human landscape through nature, creation, music and art is really where we should all be heading.
