Windows to Other Worlds I
In painting ‘Windows to Other Worlds I’ I wanted the piece to radiate a sense of transcendence, which invites the viewer into an ethereal, layered universe where architecture and nature blend seamlessly. The vertical structures represent tall, slender towers and spires, interconnected yet unique, suggesting a world where human design and organic growth have intertwined. These forms evoke the feeling of a cityscape merging with forests and mountains, representing a vision of harmonious cohabitation, where people are aligned with both nature and the divine.
The colour palette, with its soft blues, pinks, warm yellows, and earthy browns have been layered to add a dreamlike quality, immersing the viewer in a gentle, otherworldly light. The layering and transparency of water-based acrylics, watercolours, pastels, and artist inks are purposeful to create a depth and complexity, as if each "window" represented in the piece is opening onto a new layer of reality. The washes and drips of colour evoke movement and fluidity, symbolising the organic flow of consciousness and the permeability of these other worlds.
In composition, the overlapping architectural shapes, subtle silhouettes, and fragmented lines are there to give the impression of an intricate tapestry, stitched together by divine threads. The buildings appear to melt into the landscape, emphasising unity and the transient boundaries between physical structures and the natural world.
My hope is that the mediums blend within this composition to allow a fluid exchange between structure and spontaneity that suggests the viewer is only glimpsing fragments of a vast, infinite realm.
My motivation in creating this piece is that Windows to Other Worlds serves as an invitation to explore the worlds beyond our consciousness, suggesting that enlightenment and the divine are always within reach, and just merely a window away.
